A BETTER FUTURE
As we begin the New Year I look forward with anticipation to a New Scotland free of the shackles of Westminster and the parasites who dwell within its walls. I also look forward to a brave and ambitious nation full of ho…pe and confidence for the future that an independent Scotland will bring. As the people of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom brush ourselves down following a barrage of severe Austerity cuts imposed on us by a Government few in the country voted for we brace ourselves for the other 60% of cuts. We already know that the Conservatives do not intend to share the burden of reducing the Deficit with their rich friends. They have made it clear that those who can least afford it will take the brunt. They care not that they only have one MP in Scotland because they truly believe that we will be too scared to vote Yes on the 18th of September 2014. They impose their brutal policies on us with virtual impunity because the main opposition, if you can call it that, have indicated they will keep most of the Austerity cuts imposed by the Conservatives and their lackeys, the Liberals.
Labour do not have the stomach to oppose Conservative right wing policies because they know that the Conservative voters approve of them. Labour will need to convince those Conservative voters to elect them in 2015 and that wont happen if they start sounding all ‘Left Wing’ or God forbid, ‘Socialist’. The Conservatives have stated that they intend to maintain the Austerity cuts even after the Deficit is reduced so that they can achieve a ‘Surplus’ for a rainy day. In laymen’s terms that means that all the benefits cuts and attacks on public spending are going to remain indefinitely under Tory rule. Labour cannot be seen to be making too much noise about this because their traditional Labour support is not enough to guarantee power. More so given the fact that Fortress Scotland is a thing of the past and in the event of a Yes vote in the referendum they will not be able to rely on any votes from Scotland to elect them into power at Westminster. As a result the Labour Party are practically tied to the Conservative Austerity measures even after a possible election win in 2015.
The people of Scotland need to take a long hard look at the prospects of indefinite Austerity under Westminster rule. The policies imposed on us by a government we did not elect are not in line with the wishes or aspiration of the Scottish people. Where once a Labour Party used to stand up for the least able they now pander to a more affluent audience from the ‘Home Counties’. The people of Scotland are better than the greed and corruption that emanates from that London Parliament and our children and grandchildren deserve better as well. When a Government no longer has the consent of those it proposes to govern then that Government needs to be replaced with a Government that does have such consent. When a Parliament no longer has the consent of those it proposes to govern then that Parliament must also be replaced with a Parliament that does have such consent. The people of Scotland have already given the Scottish Parliament the consent to govern Scotland. We must now take the next step and endorse that Scottish Parliament with all the powers any self respecting Parliament requires to govern.
Take your time in the next nine months and do as much research as you feel necessary to allow you to make an informed decision on the future of your country. Look beyond the rhetoric and the scaremongering and the ridiculous assertions for there will be plenty of those from all angles. Take a deep breath and consider the type of nation that you want for yourself and your children and there children. When you have formed a view as to the nation you want to live in then consider who is best placed to deliver that nation.
I want a fair nation that looks after the least of its citizens as much as it looks up to the best of them. I want a nation that stands up in the international community and offers a voice of reason and compassion for those in the world unable to speak for themselves. I want a nation that is treated as an equal by its closest neighbours instead of a rural region. I want a nation that puts peace at the heart of its foreign policy and not the absurd retention of Nuclear weapons it can ill afford just so it can sit at the table with those nations that can. I want a Scotland that is full of confidence and hope and able to offer its full potential to its people and to the world.
I have heard the opponents of independence at great length and I have formed the view that they do not share in that confidence and in that hope for the future. I reject wholeheartedly their assertion that we are too wee, too poor, too stupid and too scared to run our own affairs and I sincerely hope that the most of you agree with me that not only can Scotland be independent but that Scotland must be independent for the sake of all Scots.
